Week 6: Post Engagement vs Post Reach

For this week's final assignment, I utilized the blog "Y Marketing Matters" at ymarketingmatters.com.

According to author Yasmin Bendror, post reach can measure how well your content is getting to the actual newsfeed whereas post engagement is indicative of interactions with the content, including all clicks from commenting, sharing, liking. Knowing the difference between the two is critical because post engagement is more meaningful in the long-run because it shows how people respond to what the page puts out there and will also ensure that the content shows up for the entire network of friends and friends of friends. Post reach is good for gathering basic geographic and demographic insights too.

Businesses should definitely be taking advantage of FB Insights because it has so many different parameters that will help measure who, how, when, and why their content is being viewed and engaged with. If a business is hoping to reach women from 18-25 but look at the analytics to find it is reaching men from 45-55, then that is an easy and free way to learn that something needs to be changed in the marketing and advertising strategy.
